3 Things You Must Know for Effective Acne Scar Treatment

acne scar

Acne is a big problem on its own. By the time people are done with it, it often leaves behind scars which are unsightly and badly damage one’s appearance. In order to correct this problem, there a number of treatments that are available. These treatments are fairly effective and bring results that are pretty substantial. In the following lines, we shall look into the various treatment options and the important things to know before getting the treatment.

Treatment options

There are several treatment options that are available. These include microdermabrasion which corrects the scars by exfoliating the top layer of the skin and improving the production of collagen. The new skin has lesser appearance of the scars.

Similarly, chemical peels are also used to get rid of acne scars. Layers of skin are removed by the peels depending on the condition of the patient. Generally chemical peels are effective of mild scarring only.

Fractional CO2 resurfaces the skin and improves the collagen production to make skin more firm and free from acne scars. The fractionated carbon dioxide laser makes microscopic holes in the top surface of the skin to start healing process and increase the production of collagen. The new top layer of skin is healthier and has fewer signs of acne scars.

Does a single session do the job?

A single session of any of these treatments mentioned above cannot get the job done. Several sessions are needed in order to achieve the desired results. The appearance of the scars, however, continues to lessen with each treatment. Usually after four to six treatments, the best results are had.

Are all scars removed?

The scars cannot be removed entirely but their appearance greatly diminishes with these treatments. Generally they are not very apparent without a close examination. Most people are happy with the outcome as the scars are no longer visible and their personality is no longer ruled by them.

Are they a better option than surgery?

Surgeries can do good to remove the scars to a great extent. In some cases, the results offered by the surgery will be better than the above mentioned nonsurgical treatments though complete removal does not take place. With the level of invasiveness in the surgeries, the risks associated with them are fairly serious.

When comparing the two options, it appears that the nonsurgical options are a better bet since results are often similar and the level of discomfort and the risks associated afterwards are much less.
