For millions around the world, getting a tattoo is a passion that they cannot resist. Many have each and every part of their body inked. The idea generally is to express something that is important be it a philosophy, a story or expressing your appreciation for someone you like. Some people just get them for some fun. However, one can later come to regret the decision of getting the skin inked for many reasons.
To remove tattoos, there are a number of treatments that are available. Traditional treatments are mostly highly invasive with less than perfect results and a lot of side effects involved. Laser treatments however have been a revolution in the field and have made it easier to get fantastic results without being invasive or causing downtime. Picosure is a relatively new technology that is garnering a lot of attention these days. We shall learn more about the treatment in the following lines.
How does the treatment work?
The treatment was introduced only a couple of years back. Picosure treatment follows the traditional route of laser which is to break down the pigmentation into smaller bits for the immune system to remove it from the body. It has a greater effectiveness though and therefore fewer sessions may be needed. This obviously can only be determined by the doctor that is providing the treatment for tattoo removal.
The treatment can be painful similar to other laser treatments like q-switched laser which had been the industry standard for a long time and therefore topical anesthetics of cooling gel is applied prior to the treatment. Generally this should take care of any pain that may be felt during the procedure.
Side effects and downtime
The side effects are minimal and mostly limited to redness, swelling and itching in the treated area. Icepacks can be sued to sooth the skin. The effects should wear off in a day or two. In rare cases, discoloration of skin can also take place.
There is no downtime with the treatment and a person can get back to his or her routine soon after. However, sun must be avoided for a few days since there is photosensitivity as a result of the treatment. Use of broad spectrum sunscreen and a large hat can do the trick.
Is it the ultimate option?
As far as the results, it is somewhat better than other lasers including the q-switched. However, the cost also is considerably higher and the slight different in the results may not justify the overall addition to the cost. Unless you are willing to spend large sums of money for the latest technology, q-switched laser offers better overall value with great results and much lesser cost.
