For teenagers around the world, acne is perhaps the greatest of issues. It has a tendency to show up at the wrong time and mess up the perfect appearance. For some, it is only a passing phase and acne goes away with adolescence. For others, acne can be a lot crueler and can last for years. The risk with persistence of acne is the scarring.
Acne can leave unsightly scars if it is left untreated or is uncontrolled. It can permanently damage the appearance. Fortunately, there are ways in which these scars can be treated. While surgery was preferred in years gone by, there are now plenty of nonsurgical procedures that can bring the same results. These carry little risk and have a fast recovery time as well. We shall learn about them briefly in the following lines.
The treatment uses a specialized wire brush to exfoliate the top damaged layer of the skin in order to allow healthier skin to come up on top. The healing process starts right away once the treatment is provided. The new skin has lesser appearance of the scarring. The levels of collagen in the skin are also boosted as a result and it helps the skin in getting suppler.
The treatment is highly invasive and there are some side effects as well as a fair bit of downtime involved. To numb down the sensations of pain, topical anesthetics are applied prior to the treatment. A few treatment sessions are needed in order to get the scars removed.
Microdermabrasion also looks to exfoliate the top layer of the skin but it does so by spraying tiny crystals on to the skin with the help of a handheld device. It is minimally invasive and highly effective. The healing process starts right away and the damaged skin crusts away over the next few days. The level of collagen also goes up and skin gets suppler and firmer.
The side effects are mild and generally there is no downtime with the treatment. Topical anesthetics are applied before the start of the procedure. Generally five to six sessions are needed to get the desired results from the treatment.
Fractional CO2 is used for the purpose of resurfacing the skin in the damaged area with acne scars which allows new skin to grow and remove the appearance of the scarring. The laser bores tiny holes in the stop layer of the skin. As the new skin grows, the level of collagen and elastin in the skin also improve with time. This allows the skin to continue to improve over the next few days and weeks.
The treatment has minimal side effects and often there is very little or no downtime. There is a sensation of discomfort and topical anesthetics are used to reduce it. To achieve the intended outcome, several sessions are needed. The exact number depends upon how much of scarring is there. It is the best nonsurgical treatment and offers the results on par with surgical removal of the scars without the same risks.
These are injections that are provided on the site of the scar to raise the skin by filling the area and improve its overall condition. Dermal fillers are mostly based on collagen and natural fat. The treatment is noninvasive. A few days are needed for the fillers to take full effect. They can continue to remain effective from a few weeks to up to a couple of years. They can be repeated indefinite number of times unless a health conditions prevents their use.
Radio Frequency Treatment
The treatment uses pulsed waves at specific frequencies to work at the deeper layers of the skin. It heats up the collagen to shrink it in order to allow a firmness to the skin. It also instigates production of collagen by providing the right set of conditions for this purpose.
There is no downtime with the treatment and the side effects are generally quite mild and temporary. A cooling gel is applied prior to the treatment to reduce any discomfort. Several sessions of treatment are needed to get the desired results.
