3 Things You Must Know for Effective Acne Scar Treatment

How to Avoid the Side Effects of Laser Hair Removal?
March 13, 2015

There are plenty of skin problems that a person can encounter at various stages of life. They are often not fun and can adversely affect the appearance of a person. In yesteryears, the options to treat many conditions were limited and generally involved going under the knife with extended recovery periods needed.

However, the use of laser technology for skin resurfacing has helped in many ways. Fractional CO2 treatments are being used around the globe including the Gulf States to correct many skin problems. In the following lines, we shall look into the matter in detail and learn more about how it works.

Skin problems addressed by laser skin resurfacing

The list of skin problems that Fractional CO2 laser can take care of is pretty long. It includes sagging skin, freckles and blemishes, wrinkles and fine lines, sun damage and scarring of various types amongst others.

How does it work?

Since it is a skin resurfacing treatment, the top layer of the skin which is damaged is removed. This is done with the help of carbon dioxide laser which is fractionated into tiny beamlets to ensure that the traditional harshness of the laser is avoided.

The laser makes microscopic holes in the top layer of the skin. This does two good things. It gets the healing process started in the skin and works to increase the collagen production at the same time. Pollution and constant exposure to sunlight destroy the collagen in the skin which is critical for its health.

With time, the skin keeps on improving. Usually four to six sessions are needed in order to achieve the desired results though the number can vary depending on the individual’s requirements.

Side effects and downtime

There is almost no pain since topical anesthetics are applied to the face prior to the treatment. A light sting may be felt at the most. The side effects are not many and are usually swelling and redness accompanied by itching. There is some downtime with the treatment where the skin is very red. Exposure to sun particularly needs to be avoided.

Most people can take advantage of this treatment option. People with scarring, uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles and sagging skin are all good candidates. Expecting women and nursing women are advised against getting this treatment.

Those who have undergone certain procedures recently or are using certain medications should not get the treatment as well. It is important to share you medical history with your dermatologist to ensure that the procedure is right for you.
